Adaptation that starts with the community
Resilience cannot be designed from a distance. Our work begins by helping communities understand and map their own exposure to climate and livelihood pressures, and then identify the locally grounded responses most likely to work where they actually live.
The Climate Vulnerability & Capacity Assessment
Across five districts and ten villages in the Iringa, Mbeya, and Njombe regions, we facilitated Participatory Rural Appraisal exercises: seasonal calendars that chart how the year is changing, daily-activity clocks that reveal who carries which burdens, and transect walks, including visits to community tree nurseries, that ground the conversation in the landscape itself. The result is a community-owned evidence base that adaptation strategies can genuinely build on.
