What change are we creating?

Third Alternative is partnering with communities across Misenyi District to strengthen their capacity to thrive in the face of climate and economic challenges. We believe lasting prosperity begins with a clear understanding of local strengths, vulnerabilities, and aspirations — and with solutions that are designed and led by the communities themselves. In January 2026, we conducted a pilot Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment in Kabingo Village, examining local resources, climate-related risks, and existing coping and adaptation strategies. Insights from this pilot will inform our broader engagement across Misenyi District, shaping locally owned interventions that enhance resilience, expand opportunities, and support sustainable prosperity.

Who is it for?

This initiative benefits communities across Misenyi District, with particular attention to women, youth, and households most exposed to climate-related risks. It also strengthens the capacity of local leaders and community institutions to plan and implement community-driven development.

Why it matters now

Climate variability is placing increasing pressure on rural livelihoods and local resources. By investing early in understanding both vulnerabilities and existing capacities, communities can make informed decisions, mobilise local assets, and pursue development pathways that are resilient, inclusive, and sustainable. Through this approach, Third Alternative is helping lay the foundation for long-term, locally led transformation across Misenyi District.
